Konja

Konja

Konja was born at MFS in the 1990s before we became a sanctuary. Jim and Cheri purchased Jenolyn, a pregnant mama llama, and Konja was her baby. Like all of the amazing animals who lived at MFS at the time, Konja was one of the reasons why Jim and Cheri decided to open a sanctuary instead of running a farm.

Konja sadly passed away in July 2018 after suffering from an illness. He lived to be 22 years old, two years past the normal llama lifespan of 15-20 years.

We were so happy to be able to give Konja a life of peace and safety for so many years. Sadly, if he had been born anywhere else, Konja likely would have been slaughtered at a young age due to a physical deformity. His legs were shorter than normal and also a little bowed. As many breeders and buyers judge and value llamas based on their bone structure and body proportions, referred to as conformation, Konja would likely have been considered a failure as a work or pack animal. Fortunately, the only “work” expected of Konja at MFS entailed laying in the sun, taking dust baths, hanging out with his llama pals, and occasionally greeting visitors.
