Lovey

Lovey

Lovey was a Barred Rock chicken who was being raised for eggs as part of a group of backyard chickens. In 2015, when Lovey was four years old, she was attacked by a hawk and her top beak was ripped off. Her owner contacted MFS to see if we could help, and Cheri agreed to give Lovey the care she needed as well as a new home.

Because of her injury, Lovey still needs some extra attention at feeding time. She must be separated from the other chickens because it takes her longer to eat her food—while most chickens are able to pick up food with their beaks, Lovey must scoop food from a pile or dish into her mouth. Lovey’s injury definitely does not hold her back, as she is an active and sweet chicken who keeps up with the flock and can often be seen scavenging for treats in the front lawn.
